woodworm

Woodworm might be tiny but they can cause huge problems if left untreated.
Premier Contractors are experts in finding and fixing woodworm infestations.

At the first sight of woodworm it is important for a specialist to determine if treatment is required. Premier Contractors have teams of highly-trained specialists with unrivalled experience in swift identification of problems and advising on the optimum solution.

Adult beetles lay eggs on, or just under, the surface of timbers. The resulting grubs feed on the wood causing both structural and cosmetic damage.

The first sign of woodworm is usually the appearance of tiny holes in timbers, with live infestations showing powder, known as frass, around the holes.

The holes vary in size but are typically 1mm to 1.5mm in diameter for the most common household species. Adult beetles which emerge from the wood might also be found in the summer months.

Properties with an infestation problem in the structure or furniture item often also have a problem with damp, sometimes caused by a lack of ventilation in a roof space, cellar or other enclosed space within an otherwise dry building.

Whilst damp is a leading factor resulting in woodworm, some species of wood boring insect are only found in instances where fungal rot has already begun to occur. Wood Boring Weevil is commonly found in damp timber and in timber joist ends suffering from dampness within brick pockets beneath timber flooring.

There are several different types of woodboring beetle and it is crucial that the correct diagnosis is established in order to undertake the correct and effective treatment.

We offer a comprehensive 10-year guarantee backed by GPI insurance on all our projects.
